How Sculptra Works

Sculptra is an FDA-approved injectable dermal filler designed to restore facial volume lost due to aging or illness. Unlike traditional fillers that use hyaluronic acid to immediately add volume, Sculptra works gradually to stimulate the body’s natural collagen production. Its primary active ingredient is poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible and biodegradable substance that has been safely used in medical applications for decades.

When injected into the deep dermis, Sculptra acts as a collagen stimulator. The PLLA microparticles are absorbed by the body and help rebuild the skin’s structural foundation by stimulating collagen synthesis. This newly produced collagen improves the skin’s thickness, elasticity, and firmness.

Typically, treatment involves a series of sessions—usually spaced about 4–6 weeks apart. The number of sessions depends on the individual’s needs and aesthetic goals. After the full treatment course, the effects can last up to two years or longer, as the collagen continues to support and volumize the skin even after the PLLA has been absorbed.

Conditions and Concerns Sculptra Treats

Sculptra is effective for treating a range of aesthetic and age-related concerns, including:

  • Facial Volume Loss: Particularly in the cheeks, temples, and jawline, restoring a more youthful contour.
